Citeam recent ca Oxford English Dictionary nu va mai aparea in format print datorita faptului ca piata pentru dictionarele pe suport de hartie pur si simplu a colapsat. Este la fel de adevarat ca nu se va intampla de maine, editia urmatoare a OED – a treia – urmand sa apara nu mai devreme de doua-trei decenii dupa cum previzioneaza publisherii sai.

Lovers of the English language might enjoy this. It is yet another example of why people learning English have trouble with the language. Learning the nuances of English makes it a difficult language. But then, that’s probably true of many languages.

Teaching the natives English

A priest was about to finish his tour of duty, and was leaving his mission in the jungle where he has spent years teaching the natives when he realizes that the one thing he never taught them was how to speak English.

So he takes the chief for a walk in the forest. He points to a tree and says to the chief, ‘This is a tree.’

A Russian woman married an Australian gentleman and they lived happily ever after in Brisbane. The poor lady was not very proficient in English, but did manage to communicate with her husband. The real problem arose whenever she had to shop for groceries.

A friend of mine just reminded me today about Julian Beever. English artist who is famous for his art on the pavements of England, France, Germany, USA, Australia and Belgium. Julian Beever gives his drawings an anamorphosis view, his images are drawn in such a way which gives them three dimensionality when viewing from the correct angle. It’s amazing!
