The word mahout comes from the Hindi words mahaut and mahavat, derivatives of the Sanskrit word mahamatra, meaning “[one] having great measure”. In India especially Kerala, mahout use three types of device to control elephants: Thotti (hook) which is 3.5 feet in length and 3 inches thick, Valiya kol (long pole) which is 10.5 feet in length and 5.5 inches in thickness and cheru kol (short pole). But as you can see in the picture here, the man’s care and love is better than any device.

Nu stiu sincer ce m-a apucat sa va vorbesc despre pietrele astea minunate: nu-i nici o cerere de gen pe “teava”, 14 februarie a trecut, Dragobetele la fel, pana la ziua mea mai e ceva (si oricum imi doresc un Cinquecento nu un amestec de atomi de carbon, desi niciodata nu strica inca unul) … mda, oricum insa, nu ca cele despre care va voi vorbi. Astazi este vorba despre cele naturale iar maine va promit o poveste despre cele artificiale. Cele 7 diamante sunt printre cele mai rare si mai valoroase din lume. Ambasada Republicii Islamice Pakistan la Bucureşti în colaborare cu Ministerul Culturii, Cultelor şi Patrimoniului Naţional şi Muzeul Naţional al Satului “Dimitrie Gusti” organizează începând cu 26 februarie 2009 expoziţia de broderie pakistaneză “Vise ţesute în culori” (Dreams stitched in colors). Este pentru prima dată când broderii în culori vii, care au evoluat de-a lungul unei perioade de peste 4000 ani, provenind din zona deşertică a Pakistanului, sunt expuse în România. Piesele, cuprind în marea lor majoritate fragmente care au făcut cândva parte din rochii de mireasă ale femeilor din provincia Sindh. Aceste rochii de mireasă, ce poartă patina timpului, vor fi expuse alături de bijuterii tradiţionale care le vor sublinia frumuseţea şi autenticitatea. Continuare

Am primit astazi un email ce se voia o informare, dar care este indirect o reclama la un producator (si site-ul sau) de lapte. Glow-in-the-dark* pigment trapped inside a real light bulb (just like the ones you have at home). Then the light bulb is encased in a solid block of Acrylic resin. The mysterious optical effect is caused by light diffracting in the tiny space between the glass of the light bulb and the resin, the space forms when the resin shrinks by a tiny amount during the production possess. The polished surface gives a jewel like quality to the object. In a darkened room or at night the Glow Brick comes to life with a tranquil and subtle glow emanating from the pigment inside the light bulb.
*The technical term for the glow-in-the-dark is “photoluminescence” this is a process in which energy absorbed by a substance is released relatively slowly in the form of light.
