For the ultimate adrenalin rush reserve a spot in „The Cage of Death” the new but already famous heart pumping dive within a clear cage inside the home of a full grown Saltwater Croc! Although getting up-close and personal with a crocodile isn’t anyone’s idea of a good time, the Crocosaurus Cove theme park, in Darwin, Australia has introduced this situation as a breathtaking attraction.
Close encounter: A tourist dives into a cage partially immersed in a crocodile pen at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin, Australia. Just 4cm of acrylic, a pair of goggles and a swimsuit, will separate thrill-seekers from the jaws of Choppa, a saltwater crocodile.
When you are in Darwin be sure to make time to visit Crocosaurus Cove Darwin’s newest attraction, located right in the Heart of Darwin’s central tourist precinct, on the corner of Mitchell and Peel Streets.
Enter the world of the awesome Northern Territory Saltwater Crocodile, with some of the largest in captivity on display. Bring your bathers and ‘Swim with the Crocs’ in the separate pool along side the croc enclosure.
Perfect for the serious adrenalin junkies – maximum of 2 persons at a time – The Cage of Death. The purpose built acrylic cage is lowered from an overhead monorail into any of the four separate croc enclosures for your “up close and personal” dive encounter with Croc Cove’s massive salt water crocodiles.
For about $80 anyone can be lowered in Choppa’s underwater lair, in a reinforced acrylic cage for a 15 minute heart-thumping experience. Choppa is an aggressive saltwater crocodile rescued from a crocodile farm where he got into conflicts with other crocodiles. If Crocosaurus Cove hadn’t taken him in he would have been shot. Animal activists criticized the new attraction saying it was taunting the crocodile and intruding in his environment but the staff says the animal has been given a home and is treated like a king, a much better alternative than death.
So if you’re ever in Darwin and looking for a unique thrill, head over to Crocosaurus Cove and meet Choppa. You can get the same adrenalin rush at the Crocodile Wildlife Ranch, in South Africa.
